I really should be using my blogging time this weekend to catch up on a couple of Armchair Cybils reviews, but I’ve gotten into such a habit of wrapping up our school week here that it doesn’t feel done if I haven’t written about it. Instead of giving a play-by-play this week, though, I’m going to hit the high points and call it good.
- Lulu loved tangrams this week. Who knew? I thought a root canal might be preferable to getting her to visualize all the possibilities of these seven little geometric pieces, but she actually liked it.
- She is one lesson shy of finishing RS C. Yippee!
- We picked up Singapore Challenging Word Problems (grade 2) this week after a year-long hiatus from it. It went much better this time. Maybe there is something to this working one year behind in Singapore CWP.
- Louise started working through the Math Mammoth subtraction book this week. This is her first real exposure to subtraction, so we’re taking it slowly.
- Observing and “dissecting” (nothing formal) crayfish at CC this week won the prize for being different and having just the right amount of yuck factor for my girls.
- Tin whistles. Fun.
At least the girls are getting some music reinforcement!
- This week’s read alouds include the book of Ruth and The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. Lulu and I spent a bit of time on The Little White Horse, and Louise’s book, Charlotte’s Web, is still MIA.
- Still having trouble finding time to squeeze in all our CC memory work practice. Sigh.
- Play practice for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was turned up a notch this week. Showtime is in a couple of weeks, so we’ll be spending more time at the theater as the weeks go on.
- One big, huge high point of the week is that my bloggy buddy Alice and her family came through north Alabama and spent one night with us on their trek west. The connectedness of this blogging world never ceases to amaze me. My family was truly blessed to finally meet these friends!
- Steady Eddie had the day off on Friday, so we headed to the Birmingham Museum of Art to take in the fabulous Norman Rockwell exhibit there. I loved it!
After spending a bit of time in the kids’ art rooms, we left the museum and headed to the zoo. We ended up only having about an hour there because it closed at four for a Halloween event. This was long enough for the DLM to visit his favorite animals, the macaws.
It has been a busy week, as always. This weekend I have a bit more down time than usual because the university where I work is on fall break (hence Steady Eddie’s day off Friday). Having a bit just makes me realize how much I need it. Lulu had a hymn festival to participate in today and Steady Eddie had a robotics event to attend, but besides that, we’ve done blessedly little. It has been nice to relax a bit.
How was your week?
